Afternoon shade lazily lays over pale cement
As we watch the passing cars beyond the fence
Bending in the wake the wild oats tremble on their stems
And I cannot help but feel these accidents
Summer found an exit sign and passed the stage along
For the gentle breezes autumn conjures here
Freshly cut St. Augustine perfumes the scattered lawns
As the sunny days begin to disappear
I remember everything as if it were today
And I wonder how tomorrow will respond
Caught inside the thought of being carried far away
I can drink my drink and listen to a song
Life is unpredictable like weather in the fall
And the storms can shape the landscape of our hearts
Time arrives and leaves without a curtesy at all
Like the steady hum of all these passing cars
I especially love this as I have had this thought much recently.
🙂 thank you. It is nice to know someone understands ❤
I can smell the damp and feel the chill approaching on the air . The leaves are beginning to dessert their posts. and I am tired.
i love autumn time and the dark nights i can light my candles and lanterns and my house is how it should be dark and mysterious its a time when i miss people too and think of times past i think winter does that to us you see the last fragments of summer dissappear and the new season starts loved the poem xxjen
Thanks Jen 🙂
winter is in the air, it almost seems like autumn too is ending. no longer are our days sunny but they stay dark and cloudy. winds are fast and strong, they almost seem to wrench the leaves from trees by force.
i loved the juxtaposition of changing climate with passing cars. i feel the unpredictability. and especially loved the last 2 lines.
“Time arrives and leaves without a curtesy at all
Like the steady hum of all these passing cars”
