Prism

20111003-214514.jpg
Light refracted
Fractured cracked and
Shattered into jagged pieces
Scattered on an empty surface
Far dispersed and lost for purpose

Beam attracted
Struck–impacted
Decimated into ribbons
Strewn across a vacant chapel
luminated hues of shrapnel

Piercing the abysmal dusk
Encompass and imprison us
In glowing bars between the pews
From saints above us passing through

To carve across our darkened hearts
A prism formed of ancient art
Forsaken tombs awakened here
Beneath the tired angel’s stare

  1. awesome dark poetry. loved every word and the feeling of darkness in brings. a church is a place for redemption and salvation, but this abandoned chapel sure brings the gothic image of darkness and sense of evil. what horrors might wait?

in a different view this abandoned chapel seems our soul the one we abandoned in favor of earthly pleasures.

    • It is a vision purely from my mind. I have always been fascinated by stained glass and chapel scenes. These ancient depictions, like elaborate cave art, evoking a sense of immortality, and yet often showing scenes of frailty or death. A contrast to the living beneath them. Thank you 🙂

  2. I love this , the illusion on the prism, the sudden shattering of this prism. In that shattering is revealed the future , present and the past in all in colours hues and shades. I particularly liked the last verse “To carve across our darkened hearts
A prism formed of ancient art Forsaken tombs awakened here Beneath the tired angel’s stare” The “Beneath the tired angel’s stare” says it all the angel has seen it all before and still is and always will. Beautiful work please keep it up!

  3. I feel I’m in the chapel, vw (for short) and the sunlight is pouring through a lead lined stained glass window, a broken piece of glass, cracked in so many places, is causing fractured light , many coloured and jewel-like… You have tickled my thought process with your emotive and descriptive words, ending with the sad thought of an angel, almost weeping, for us and our lost potential… xPenx
