Ladies and gentlemen
Feast your eyes on center ring
Witness the finest show
of magic and illusions
Ladies and gentlemen
This is art we’re practicing
It’s dangerous, you know
It may appear confusing
Ladies and gentlemen
You won’t believe the things you see
But keep an open mind
And you will be convinced
Ladies and gentlemen
Kindly find the closest seat
Now, let us dim the lights
And let the show commence
We will amaze you with our disappearing act
In fact I think you will agree it’s quite unnerving
Don’t be alarmed to see me saw myself in half
And if you must, then look away, if it’s disturbing
We wave our wands and pull our smiles from the hat
In fact you cannot tell the real from immitation
We swallow fire with our dignity in tact
And speak of things beyond your grand imagination
I tend to sleep at night on beds of sharpened nails
In fact I’m rather well adjusted to the feeling
We juggle swords and spikes, and you can hardly tell
Sometimes we use them to suspend us from the ceiling
You will be dazzled as we hover without strings
I’ve been left hanging here for hours all alone
And, for my final trick, I vanish into dreams
But, please, remember folks: don’t try these things at home
Roll up roll up …. you sold me!!
haha thank you willowdot!
Awesome post, It feels at times that I am a freak show.
Aren’t we all freaks in someone’s opinion? 🙂 thank you!
I love this, it is awesome as always 🙂
Thank you very much Autumn!
Oh. My. Gosh. Amazing. Thank you.
Aw, you think so? 😀 thanks!
Well. That was a rather mild expression of how I feel about it, but yes, I think so. 🙂
Thank ya ma’am 😉
It is like I was there to witness it. This is very good of you as a poet. You make the readers involved.
Thank you for stopping by, Jay! I appreciate the kind words
I was almost there watching these circus performances, your poem completely drew me in. wish you a sweet evening. Hugs, Nikki
That’s very kind of you, Nikki! Have a wonderful evening as well!
I really like this; it’s fast and playful on the surface, but the undercurrent of the whole poem brings the darker edge.
Thank you very much! I’m glad you took time to stop by and read!
entertainment and magical moments, described to perfection, VW, I ‘rolled up’ and I solemnly promise not to try this at home.. Honest!! 😀 xPenx

Haha that would be a good picture for your blog 🙂
The thrill of the circus, with magical wonders
wondrous acts, mind blowing excitement at
every turn, feel the rush of enjoyment beyond
the every day, mundane twists and turns and
savour the enchanting illusions that create a
world of adventures all rolled into one show 🙂
I really like this one Vampire Weather 🙂

Thank you for the kind words! Sometimes life is as a freak show. I feel as though I am unwittingly performing for the audience. Normal for me is not normal for others lol
This is very cool! I love stories, movies and poems with an old carnival or traveling show flavor, it holds such an old-fashioned mystique. “…And, for my final trick, I vanish into dreams…” Awesome!
😀 Thanks, unsungpoet!
love the rythm, love the pace and adored the end. wonderful work 🙂
Ah thank you my friend. So good to see you again Cursi 🙂
I felt as though you put a show into my head. it took my away from my reality and brought me to a place of pure joy and amazment!
So glad my magic can be entertaining! I’m still trying to perfect my vanishing act. I can disappear I just can’t seem to make it back to reality…thanks Jenny
