Ordinary Starlet

Thinking in clichés
As she jaywalks city streets she never
Drove through anyway
‘Cause the lights never turned green for her

Drinking galaxies
Through the straw of her peripheral she
Passes through the flume
Where a million other particles

Collide
Collide
The sparks have burnt the runners in
Her eyes
Her eyes
Are deeper than the drainage pipes
She rides
She rides
On not-so-magic carpets through
This life
Her life
An ordinary starlet who
Has never found an orbit
But refuses to burn out

Derelict parades
Of the ships she never anchored drift like
Ribbons in her braids
And cascade across her shoulder blades

Quiet escapades
Slither in beneath the burden of her
Unrequited days
‘Till the memories unbuckle and

Collide
Collide
The sparks have burnt the runners in
Her eyes
Her eyes
Are deeper than the drainage pipes
She rides
She rides
On not-so-magic carpets through
This life
Her life
An ordinary starlet who
Has never found an orbit
But refuses to burn out

  1. Ordinary and yet extraordinary, sometimes when one has not excelled, a feeling of disappointment sets in but in the bigger picture that is life itself the flavour of one’s existence is much more appreciated than at first sight and a life that was thought to have been lacklustre was instead a truly worthwhile and meaningful reality…

A lovely piece of poetry Vampire Weather, and I thank you for offering a high calibre poem with so many thought provoking realities… She was never ordinary in my way of thinking, but this is how poetry offers such a great variety of ideas 🙂

    • I agree. I wanted to pose the competing ideas of being a starlet and being ordinary. I believe that in a certain sense none of us are ordinary, and yet we are relatively equal. So I do not necessarily look down on the homeless man who begs or look up to the rich superstar. They are each valuable. Certainly people deserve recognition for their achievements but much of what makes people a “star” is public opinion. I wanted to depict this person as an ordinary citizen who is unique and amazing, but that it wasn’t necessarily obvious to the rest of the world. Thank you for your thoughts my friend!

  2. Another awesome writing. You will always be on the top of your followers list because the writing is awesome, never dull, and you add a slightly different creative style in every poem. Very deep as we are not only pulled into the thoughts, but the thoughts become our own in some way!

  3. I love the way where it flows …. I always admire u’re way of writing with such intensity that makes me feel all the emotions inside of it…. thank you for sharing this…

  4. I am starting out with a few people to see if this works. Your work is incredible, I am waiting for something I can hold in my hands and reread. If you go to my new site- i think you will understand. Love does not solve all things. A great marriage and a broken heart. At the moment- it will pass. Before my site went down, there are a couple of people I was saving time for. We got in a stupid fight about my disease. There is no known cure that by body will tolerate, they can’t do a last ditched medication because my blood pressure is to low. We were arguing about hope and faith. I have been reading what your words are bringing to the world and was synthesizing what I thought before I responded. Addision’s is the umbrella term for what I have. I’m in the last stages- this blog and reading words of yours and everyone one that has faith gives me courage and happiness. Thank you. Forgiveness, I swear is the key to mending and growing love.

    • Heather, thank you for being a part of my world on this blog. I have enjoyed your continued support and allege wonderful updates you posted with inspiring art and ideas. I was sad the other day to discover your site had disappeared, and I would love to visit your new site. Can you send me an address for it? I am so sorry to hear about your struggles, both emotional and physical. Love truly does not solve everything. It is a powerful part of life that can enhance or destroy us sometimes. Thank you for sharing your heart, and please let me know where I can go to find your new blog. I will keep you in my heart. Suffering is a constant in this world, but that doesn’t mean it ever gets easier for us. Your story is touching and I would like to know more about your struggles
