Chandelier Of Stars

20120212-004545.jpg
In the vaulted cathedral of night
An endless chandelier of stars
Dangles brightly overhead
Where bedded oceans
Speak whispered waves
Upon a shore of bronze-grey
Sometimes in the recompense of chance
Two hands pass
In fleeting grasps along parallel lines
Where neither gravity nor time
Stays long enough for tea
And neither do we
Surety for a pact yet unfulfilled
These glimmering fragments
Of twinkle-eyed enchantments
Blow in on the offshore breeze
For a dance on the hem
Of secret seas
Beneath the chandelier of stars
Where all we are
And all we ever were
Is a blaze of torn sky
Trespassing the atmosphere in night
To write initials
In a constellation
Visible for one millionth of a moment
To be held on lips too small
And kept in safes too thin
Before the breeze returns
And claims its stray sand dancers
Beneath a chandelier of stars

  1. Love this poem. I was picturing my self on a beach under the stars as I ready this… Which I might add is one of my favorite places to be. Thank you for bringing me there. ❤

  2. Oh My god! It’s so beautiful!!!!

Specially “Where neither gravity nor time
    Stays long enough for tea
    And neither do we”

    I loved this line!!

Your imagery and imagination are very powerful!

  3. This poem is so beautiful were I to pick a line I would have to pick the whole poem because it is so cleverly written that each line cleaves to the next bringing forth a fusion of wonder. Thank you for sharing ! I love it

  4. I totally love this one 🙂 the stars and that line that Soma liked, me too… ‘….Where neither gravity nor time
Stays long enough for tea…” Your writing is so consistently awesome!!

  5. The stars know more
    Of love
Than any of us ever will
    For centuries they have watched
As lovers throw rocks with notes
    To waiting window sills
    For eons they have listened
    As soft whispers are shared
    For eras they have sighed
As a knee goes down and a box opens
    For always they have cried
As love is used as an evil lie
    Forever they will watch over
    The lovers of this sphere
    Forever they will hope
    As love endlessly conquers fear

Sometimes it feels like our entirety is being measured and recorded in one silent moment. This poem is alive, breathing with heart beats.
    The picture was phenomenal

  6. How do you do it? Every time I read one of your pieces I am just in awe of lines like “trespassing the atmosphere in night, to write initials, in a constellation”. You really do have a gift. I nominated you for the Genuine Blogger Award. If anyone deserves it on wordpress, it’s you.

  7. This is truly beautiful. You are a strong poet.

In the vaulted cathedral of night
    An endless chandelier of stars
    Dangles brightly overhead
    Where bedded oceans
    Speak whispered waves
    Upon a shore of bronze-grey

This starts with powerful images and keeps going,

    Trespassing the atmosphere in night
    To write initials
    In a constellation

    What wonderful language!

  8. I love this–the imagery is so magnificent, I can’t really do justice to it in a comment–one of those “I so wish I’d written this” times…

  9. Wow… this is incredible! I agree with Caddo’s comment above – I totally wish I’d written this!

I’m new to your blog VW, but I like what I see. You can bet I’ll be back, “before the breeze returns and claims it’s stray sand dancers.”

    Peace ~ Ben
