The mist has gathered here tonight
Behind the eyes of truth and lies
As we begin this careful dance
Around the lines we cannot cross
Dancing in these darkened chambers
To the cries of dying smiles
Fancying ourselves as artists
Dancing in these darkened chambers
Into this apocalypse
Fancying ourselves as heartless
The crowd has gathered here tonight
The mob of things we should have said
They mock these fallen silhouettes
That steal the heat beneath my bed
Dancing in these darkened chambers
Step by step in perfect time
Fancying ourselves as precious
Dancing in these darkened chambers
Underneath eternity
Fancying ourselves as deathless
This is breath taking and sad. I think the line that hit me the most was “to the cries of dying smiles”
May I ask what inspired this beautiful poem?
I am not certain I could pinpoint a singular source of inspiration. I suppose it is a psychological reference to memories and thoughts. What do you think it means?
Living and doing life despite the reactions of others and the little box you have been put in by society?
I am not sure really as each part could have several meanings it seems.
Let it be the meaning you find, rather than mine 🙂
I really like this, such a mix of feelings. Great work 🙂
Thank you, Autumn 🙂

I love this one, beautiful work!

Its Beautiful …carries shadows that do not let open the arms and a lost in the past undercurrent in it
You have such beautiful comments, Soma 🙂
Wow wow wow, wow wow. I’m trying to find some accurate words–but your work usually leaves me with a visceral impression of experience that I’m helpless to describe in a “reasonable” way. I imagine you get what I mean…
Your generous words are humbling 🙂
“Fancying ourselves …”
Don’t we all have a bit of this “dancing in darkened chambers” in EVERY human encounter that includes any degree of intimacy, of self-revelation? Wonderful poem, very powerful and very evocative of intense sets of human emotions dancing around each other!
Thank you, granbee 🙂
Dancing in the dark, in the distance the hungry dog do bark.
Perhaps he is on a chain 🙂
Oh! I hope so!! xxxxx
Another gem of a poem, VW…. so many layers! Again, I’m just awed by the way you put words and lines together… and like Ben focused on, “fancying ourselves” – becomes the crux of the poem.
You are too kind, as always my friend
So sad, but very beautiful. Breathtaking poem.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your kind thoughts
I hope that you are
well Vampire Weather 🙂

Thank you, my friend. I am well. I hope that you are as well!
I think VW we all can do a dance within the dark shadows.. But its only through dancing through them that we begin to see the Light!.. Love to you and enjoy your weekend.. catching up on just some of your posts sorry I havent more time to view others. as time is limited .. Be well and sending you lots of good energy vibes across the airwaves! xx Love and Gratitude for sharing.. ~Sue
I understand. I am struggling to keep up with all these wonderful blogs 🙂
Another powerful chant. I do not think these poems are beautiful in the traditional sense of beautiful. Instead they sing their dark songs with a power that is almost thrilling. The ending reaches for eternity inside the human experience:
Dancing in these darkened chambers
Underneath eternity
Fancying ourselves as deathless
The key word, for me, is fancying… We have our rituals that we fancy is going to lead us to eternity. Every culture and place has their own rituals. We fancy they lead where our spirits wish us to go. But is it just fancy, or is truth intertwined with the fancying? The music underlying the images and the chanting is subtle and almost intoxicating. This is interesting poetry.
Ah, the mysteries of life. Thank you again for a thoughtful remark!
I had to come back to this one and re-read it, so very profound…
