Maybe Dragons Are Misunderstood

20120327-224303.jpg
Just because you’re hard to kill
Doesn’t always make you tough
Just because you never smile
Doesn’t mean you never dream
Just because you’re breathing fire
Doesn’t mean you cannot love
Just because you’re different
Doesn’t mean you’re dangerous

What if all the dragons
Are just brokenhearted fairy tales
What if all the monsters
Are just souls without a home
What if all the blood we spill
Is digging our way down to hell
What if everybody
Didn’t have to be alone

Just because they don’t believe
Doesn’t always mean you’re wrong
Just because they cannot see
Doesn’t mean there’s nothing there
Just because you’re far away
Doesn’t mean you don’t belong
Just because my skin is thick
Doesn’t mean that I don’t care

What if all the villains
Are the heroes no one understood
What if all the peasants
Are just kings without a throne
What if you and I were never
Scripted to be bad or good
What if everybody
Didn’t have to be alone

  1. sometimes we feel the energy of a kindered spirit..
and it feels like we belong…
every once in awhile that happens,…..
even if its in cyberspace, but then crystals
make the computers work, and whos to say they don’t have memories of yesteryear stored and as each similar energy comes close, they tweak their power
ahhh if only people believe in the impossible, it becomes possible!

    I enjoyed your thoughts very much…incredibly real…
full of curiosity and energy , what a gift you have!

    Thank you for being you…

    Take Care…
    You Matter…

    • Thank you for visiting, my friend. It is a pleasure to have you. Sometimes we do belong, and often it is as much our belief that we do as any pertinent circumstances. A pilgrim’s journey, this life, and we pass through both shadows and sunlight along the path. Thank you for visiting

So so incredibly brilliant. All we all want, appreciation and affection. I am a born again romantic, it can happen to you as well

  3. Oh the beauty you weave ..this is just brilliant VW…so beautiful that how every evil or demon is just a sad or scared fairy…its true every heart has good and bad..its just what they choose to show..the lack of opportunity or they just didn’t know how
    …What if all the peasants
Are just kings without a throne…
absolutely in love with your poem…
there should be a wow button
    hugs and love 🙂

    • In your dreams? What an unusual dream that must have been. Might I ask how I appeared in your dream? I am quite curious now. I have been known to be even more strange in dreams than in the real world, which is quite an achievement 🙂

  4. I love this 🙂 Just so awesome and yes, Dragons are Misunderstood!! They are different and have a touch of magic, I do believe. This is one of my faves you’ve written, but then, I love them all 🙂

  5. VW your words always hit home with a deeper meaning.. Loved this entry my friend, Well we have certainly as the Human Race spilled many a drop of blood over the centuries. Digging ourselves into Hell? well we are certain creating it here within our reality … if we let the Dragons breath roar…. We all hold a Dragon within.. and I know we all are at times very misunderstood..
Great post VW… Love to you xx

    • Thank you, Sue, and yes I think we all know what it means to be misunderstood. In some ways, we all understand each other, yet in some ways we are all unique enough we are never fully understood. If I could understand myself, I think I should know the secrets of the universe. It is certainly a quest worth undertaking 🙂

  6. this was profoundly beautiful and spoke to me. I’ve often thought along these lines. You are a phenomenal talent.

    All the best…GC

    • Oh no, my friend. All my poetry is ghost written by my alter ego. I can take no credit 🙂

Thank you for your kind words. Life provides us a series of choices and whichever we choose we can be sure someone will question it or fail to understand.

  7. Your work is brilliant! The depth in your expression stirs the bowels of my soul. Maybe you’re too good!!! 😀 Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m now hooked on your words 🙂

  8. Love this, VW. We are the dragons, we are the monsters, we are the fairytales, the kings and queens… all of us are wrapped up in your lines. And because we are all of them, we are never alone.

(That was what my soul heard of your wonderful piece, anyway :-)).

    A fabulous read!

    • We truly embody many things, depending on the moment. We can be wonderful, volatile, and strikingly unique. At all times we have the capacity to be anything. Thank you, Angela 🙂

  9. VW, this entire poem (just TERRIFFIC, by the way!) makes up so very much of my prayers, ever since I was about 12 years old and started collecting for UNICEF at Halloween with my church youth group! Somehow, there was a spirit moving my heart to find commonality with all peoples everywhere! Bless you many times over for this post today. I am reblogging it, okay?

  10. You are availing yourself of high craft in this poem. The first and third stanzas, with their statements contradicting what some take for common wisdom, pleading for understanding for those who are different, are chants rising out of direct experiences with life. The second and fourth stanzas, moving from statement to question, are a different kind of chant, imagining a better world. What makes the poem is the classic feeling it has, as if you had moved close to a dragon’s lair, taken a chisel with you, and bravely sat before a dragon’s eyes carving these words in stone. The craft you utilize, of course, ends up as art. Tom and Ethel

    • Thank you! It truly is quite interesting how the concepts of right and wrong shift from culture to culture with very few exceptions. We are often far too comfortable in our own notions, perhaps

  11. YaY! Thanks for fianally showing me those dragons you promised.
This is an incredible piece of work – It neately frames one of my
biggest problems with the world in general – what if everything that
threatened you – was just mad because it got a smaller slice – or
    no slice at all. 🙂

  12. Every side has a story
    Even if it’s never told
    Every hard and stony heart
Is just trying to hide the soft center
    In every soul misunderstood
There is a child crying in a wood
    Wanting the world to know
That they simply need a sign
To tell them where to go

    Andrea XOXO

  13. This is truly beautiful. I love the line “what if all the dragons are just brokenhearted fairy tales?” I mean yeah! Who says dragons are monsters? Who says the ogre can’t get the girl? Who says the princess can’t kick ass? Always a pleasure to read your work my friend.
