Clouds I Packed

20120917-205122.jpg
Fragments of the bridges we burned
In the charred grey haze
In the soft blue grass
My hand on your future
Your palm on my past

Little scraps of clouds I packed
In the zippers and pockets
Of the walls we moved
And the paint we peeled
For the dreams we drew
Under stark white dots
Oh, the skies we knew
Were

Bigger than the snowfall over those mountains
And bigger than the love all over these hills
Our sky was on fire
Our hearts were our needles
Our eyes were a compass
Our bodies unbound

Bigger than the words repainted from ancients
And bigger than door frames over this house
Our sky is on fire
Our blankets untorn
Our love is like water
Our bodies still warm

(sorry for the delay. I’ve been relocating and adjusting. Thank you for your patience)

Dreamland Renegades

20120711-102531.jpg
Five acre smile
Under backlit sunset braids
Did we set the world on fire
I think we might have
Burning up
‘Til there’s nothing left to save
Did we catapult the moon
I think we might have

Open roads
Counting fence posts on parade
Did we think we’d never fade
I think we might have
Overbold
Plotting midnight masquerades
Did we think we’d get away
I think we might have

I took the wheel
Like all the world was ours to steal
Every golden flake of cloud
Tucked away behind the thought
We are real
Chasing colors like the blind
Call us dreamland renegades
Much too perfect to be caught

5 After Midnight

20120220-234243.jpg
The pixie dust
Long since swept up
Has left only a fading glow
Upon the harsh wooden floor
And I am here
Dangling between wand
And life
How long will I
Be caught between
Being the coachman and the dog
How long will I
Be snagged in thinking
The taste of these enchantments
Is bitter in the end
A hollow sound
Of fairy games
And riven souls

Kinetic Pantomime

20111228-143642.jpg
We, in kinetic pantomime
Soaking rustic sunsets
Through dreamlike pores
Are evermore
And never were

We, in fused schisms
With effortless grace
Bequeathed by flames
Are tempered steel
And feather down

We, in double helix
Breathe rainbows into love
Like winter storms
Between despair
And open air

Further Out

20111211-152353.jpg
Carefully, carefully each piece is fitted for unearthly pressures and strange atmospheres
Charting and planning this voyage to never return
Checking the hatches we make every effort to preserve the pressure and seal in the air
Counting in sequence; the boosters beginning to burn

Here at the dawn with our chins lifted high
To the moon and beyond
Further out

Tipping our hats to the friends standing by
We are already gone
Further out

Into the ink of a fathomless evening these fires will drive us a lifetime from here
Guided by only a dream and the things that we made
Gravity tied to our ankles could not stop the breaking at last as the world disappears
Weightless, and empty we dance on the edge of this blade

Limits were set for the innocent sky
But we never belonged
On the ground

Dangerous business captured our eye
From the mysteries held
Further out

Look for our light when the clouds have all cleared
Out with the stars on the galaxy floor
Reaching for what is not offered down here
Breaching the distance, persistent for more

Armored For The Moon

20111114-215408.jpg
Armored for the moon, we are
An arbitrary tercet
Casting blatant disregard
Across the face of gravity
Cavalier for passion
In a reckless sort of fashion
Trading atmosphere for purer air
To fuel our fantasies

Cradled for the night, we were
A perfect convalescence
Woven fingers under blankets
We assaulted northern lights
Crafted after seriphs
Vaguely odd and plainly careless
Making love and taking dares, we made
Our memories in the night

Overlaid with grace, we are
An everlasting circle
In an orbit better set
Than all the dreams to come behind
Burning up on entry
Like a star on course for centuries
We set our mark to heaven
And our love became divine

Buried Alive

20111023-020304.jpg
Trapped inside
Buried alive
Clawing the walls
That hold them below
Cries unheard
Muffled by earth

Cast aside
Sealed up to die
Living emotions
Words left unspoken
Fighting to breathe
Deep within me

Shut and nailed
Packed and sealed
Covered with reasons
Left out to freeze
Dropped in a coffin
To rot and to soften

I can hear them scream
Piercing the ground beneath my dreams
Dragging their nails across my belly
Writing the things they cannot tell me

I can feel them pound
Shaking the thoughts I can’t let out
Trying to break their borrowed tomb
Awaiting their turn to be exhumed
