Humdrum Heart

Wake up, you tired little muscle
Don’t let me down today
I know you’ve been working overtime
Just keep some blood in my veins
We have a lot to accomplish
If we work together I’m sure
We will find rest out here someday
The humdrum of living will disappear

Sleep when you can
Don’t lose your rhythm
Keep yourself warm
You can’t stop giving
I still depend
On you being steady
So wake up, my friend
Although you are heavy

I will take care to protect you
If you won’t abandon me now
I can’t guarantee I won’t break you
I guess we both know how that worked out
We still have daylight for living
And moonlight for being alone
Wake up and bring me some color
We have so much to get done

Sleep when you can
Don’t lose your rhythm
Keep yourself warm
You can’t stop giving
People can’t see
How you’ve been exhausted
But they can see me
And I need to make it

So wake up, you tired little muscle
Don’t let me down today
I know you don’t feel like moving
But please keep some blood in my veins
We have a lot to accomplish
If we work together I’ll bet
We can be all they expected of us
So please don’t give up on me yet

Still There

The days have passed so slowly
Yet the time elapsed with grace
I often miss your presence here with me

I wonder if you’d know me
If you’d recognize my face
But somehow I know we will always be

Still there
Deep down where
Nothing can touch us
Nothing can break us

Still there
Like the moments we share
You will find safety
Here in my heart

The life that I discovered
Hasn’t always been the best
Some days seem much harder than they should

I want to tell you everything
But I can’t do that yet
I just want to tell you that I would

You are still there
Deep down where
I don’t forget you
I don’t regret you

You are still there
And yes I still care
You will find safety
Here in my heart

Even if the earth keeps turning
Pulling us apart
I will be a better person
With you in my heart
Nothing here is ever perfect
I just thought I’d say
Even though I cannot see you
I think every day

You are still there
Deep down where
I don’t forget you
I don’t regret you

You are still there
And yes I still care
You will find safety
Here in my heart

Dream For You

Being alive will always
Come with circumstances we can’t change
These bitter nights will always
Come with chances for a brighter day
Sometimes the fight will take us
Far away from where we want to be
But it’s alright to lose your
Focus for a moment if you need

I will dream for you
And believe in bigger things
You don’t have to make it through
I will bear you on my wings

When your hope is gone
And the world is wrong
Let your heart be calm
I will dream for you

We all need something that is
Far too large for us to do alone
We all need someone who can
Find us when we lose our way back home
We all need dreams that help us
See the world like no one else before
We all need keys that let us
Open up our deepest inner doors

I will dream for you
And believe in bigger things
You don’t have to make it through
I will bear you on my wings

When your hope is gone
And the world is wrong
Let your heart be calm
I will dream for you

Fashion And Fatalities

You wear your skin convincingly
As if it’s where you want to be
But I can see, oh, I can see
And nothing here is fooling me

You wear your smile so finely peeled
As if it’s how you really feel
But I can see, oh, I can see
And nothing here is fooling me

You wear that dress so confident
As to impress with elegance
But I can see uncertainty
And nothing here is fooling me

You wear your Jewelry like a charm
As if it keeps you safe and warm
But I can see you’re disbelief
And nothing here is fooling me

I don’t intend to condescend
As if I don’t know how you feel
I can see, oh, I can see
Because you look a lot like me

I wear my heart out on my sleeve
As if that’s where it’s meant to be
And we can leave, oh, we can leave
Because none of them are fooling me

If I Had Known You

If I had known you
I would have held you
If I could hold you
I would tell you

You’re the best thing to happen lately here

And I know we deserve these tears

But in a better world they would understand

So sleep now and dream

It’s not the end
This is not surrender
I’m fighting for a friend
And hoping you remember
I will never run
I can be your wings
So sleep now and dream

If you are lonely
If you’re alone
Then you can call me
I’ll bring you home

Because you’re the best thing to happen lately here

And I know we can’t change the years

But in a better world everything would all make sense

So sleep now and dream

What have we done?
Where did we go?
If I should vanish
This you should know
Something I’ve saved here
Something we shared
Things that are sacred
Know that Im there

If I had known you
I would have held you
If I could hold you
Then I would tell you

You are the best thing to happen here
You are the best thing to come around…

Nothing Else

There is no price to set on life
Or limit to where beauty lies
The worth of us is not defined
By weights or measures, mates or treasures

As you breathe you serve to prove
A value held in only you
Your beauty lies within yourself
Content with that and nothing else

Enclosure

Interred in juggernaut walls
Rifted as it were from form well fit
By cause or catastrophe untold
Folded for wilting
Petals lain in tired heaps about this enclosure
Swept up in figure crumpled slumped and sunken in efforts spent
To rend mortar from brick to crack sick structured severance
Laced in loosely laid arguments
Spun for movements yet untaken
In desperation resolve forsaken
Trapped
But not apparent
These exits hid for time when waking reason sheds inhibition
When sense and sensitivity are molded first for what cannot be seen
Which here now resides
Bent in shadow
Drawn for eyes of brighter respect
Whose lenses cleansed again repent the disbelief in trade for what is made
Gentle fingers to trace the contour of this devil’s grave
In truth to discover the clever architect of such cruel monuments
Could not a tyrant be
If indeed as tyrants go a hand external this would mean
Entombed in grave remorse or faded course
For drunken charting in love’s throes
A figure fair and sovereign did fashion such a cavern
If not by reason
Then by lack of will to look beyond a cold unforgiving frame
To name an enemy unseen a thing of dreams or even more a ghost
But ghosts do not here dwell
And ghosts
Though present nonetheless
Do not the dwelling of the living form
Nor lay the bricks
A holding pen
If that is what it is that you are in
May rise but ‘neath the guide of only one
The one in which resides this mortar
This brick
This mob of walls from which is not a certain door
And so laid
Crumpled on the floor
A figure bathed in cascaded darkness all it’s own
To wrap in rags from sorrow sewn
A thing of beauty
A thing of bright elements infused
Of such a race that angels envy for their loves
Disfigured in despair by air oppressed and rent of rest
And yet…
Free
If by choosing she will be
Uncluttered by restraint to paint a stroke of brilliant light
Across a night in need of such
For out the darkness
Blushes paths untaken
Words unspoken
Exits formed of threads being woven by hands which built
Perhaps unknowing
This dim and dreamless dark enclosure
To unravel walls well fabricated
But not from necessity here created
A farce are they
By motion shattered with ease
Poor creature you are not caged
You are not clipped as birds with wings
You are not held within these
As always you are liberated
And have been since when first created
Birthed unclothed and unashamed
Untold untrained and untamed
To build grander things than tombs in which to cower from a world of tombs
A world of rooms
A world of flowers wilted in walls built
By hands not meant for such doom
By eyes fused with colors unreflected without others
Arise to face these juggernaut walls
And find them weak
Made to fall
Spend those finely sculpted hands on other tasks of greater chance and higher call
Lit from a fist thrown firm beneath the tired chest of these apparitions
Move and live and love
And in so doing be the destroyer
Of your saddened heart’s enclosure

For Rising

Look to the clouds
Leave the ground
Take your place above the earth

Nothing here can hold you down
You were made to take the wing

Enlist the breeze
Find release
Take your place above the earth

See your purpose from the air
Put your faith in better things

Just as the birds defy the dirt
And are not afraid to fall
You must climb beyond this hurt
You must move beyond these walls

Nothing here can hold you down
You were made to take the wing
See your purpose from the air
Place your faith in better things

If Skin Is A Cell

If skin is a cell
Then bodies are prisons
If mind is a hell
Then nightmares are demons
If life is a stage
Then death is our curtains
If love is a game
Then rules are uncertain
If eyes are a frame
Then windows are tinted
If time is a father
Then mine is abusive
If skin is a cell
Then I need pardon
If love never fails
Then this is my bargain

Hands As Hearts

20110810-020144.jpg
With hands as hearts
Across the gulf
In silence marks
The state of us

For words un-spoke
A phantom touch
Our feelings wrote
With shapes and such

With hands as hearts
By fingers made
In times apart
Can speak and say

This passing chance
I take at risk
To steal your glance
And show you this

With hands as hearts
Expressions drawn
In resolution
Hushed and calm

For distant eyes
And captive views
A thought implied
That “I love you”

A Future

20110809-015409.jpg
Wounded child
Lift your head
You are safe here

Broken heart
Take your rest
You are safe here

In the end everything will fade away
Until then there is still a hiding place
When the world seems a heavy weight to bear
Keep your faith child keep your faith

Find the future
Take the moments you’ve been given
Be the dreamer
Make a life that’s worth the living
There are plans that are much larger than you see
When you do not understand what they may be
Just remember
You have a future

Empty hands
Join again
You are safe here

Tired eyes
Sleep tonight
You are safe here

In the dark it is hard to see the cause
There is hope for the weary and the lost
Don’t forget there will always be a choice
Keep the faith child keep the faith

Looking Up

Make faces at the lemons
Life provides for flavoring
Don’t cry for broken wishes
Life is full of better things
You and I were made for dancing
Let the rhythm lead you on
I know it isn’t easy
But it’s worth another song

Don’t stop looking up
Pinky promise you will smile tonight
Lady you’ve cried enough
Everything will be alright
We have so much more to do
So much to be thankful for
So I’m going to smile for you
Knowing that I love you more

Stop swinging punches darling
No one is attacking you
Everyone loves you so much
Don’t say you don’t know it’s true
Patience is more than virtue
Peace is just a choice you make
Choose the best that you can do
Do the best for heaven’s sake
